Reading your result
What your IPTV speed test numbers mean
Speed is only part of the story. A line that holds 30 Mbps all evening beats one that jumps between 200 and 5, which is why we show jitter too.

How to run a fair test at home
Test where you watch
Open this page on the TV browser or on a phone held next to the TV. A test beside the router only tells you about the router.
Test in the evening
Around 8 p.m. is when Canadian networks are busiest. If the numbers hold then, they hold all day.
Pause the big stuff
Stop game updates and cloud photo backups for a minute. They can take most of the line without anyone noticing.
Run it three times
Take the middle result. One slow run can be a neighbour, a microwave or a phone joining the Wi-Fi.
Try ethernet once
If you can, plug the TV or stick into the router and test again. If ethernet is much faster, your fix is Wi-Fi, not a bigger plan. Our troubleshooting guide covers the next steps.
Why we don't publish ISP rankings
You will find pages that claim one Canadian internet provider beats another by a set number of milliseconds for IPTV. We don't publish tables like that, because we haven't measured them and we won't make numbers up. On the same provider, a fibre line in a new Toronto condo and an old copper line in a rural Quebec village are completely different connections. The router, the Wi-Fi and the time of night change the result far more than the logo on the bill.
What we built instead is a test of the line that feeds your own TV. If it shows a steady result that fits the table above, IPTV will run well on it, whether the line comes from a big national company or a small local one.
IPTV speed test questions
What internet speed do I need for IPTV?
About 10 Mbps for each TV watching in HD, 15 to 25 Mbps for Full HD, and 25 to 50 Mbps for 4K, measured at the TV. Add them up for every screen playing at the same time, then leave room for the rest of the house.
Why is my speed test lower than my internet plan?
Your plan speed is what reaches the router. Wi-Fi walls, distance, older devices and everyone else online at the same time all take a share before the signal reaches the TV. For a useful number, run the test on the TV itself, or on a phone right next to it on the same Wi-Fi.
Does this speed test measure your IPTV servers?
No. It measures your own connection to the Cloudflare data centre that serves iptvwest.ca, usually one in your part of Canada. That tells you what your line can carry. How our streams run on it is what the free trial is for.
Is ping important for IPTV?
Less than for gaming. A delay under about 90 ms is fine for streaming. Higher delay mostly means channels take a moment longer to start. Download speed and a steady connection matter much more.
